Random cuts

they met at the roadside cafe
three men with their wives
all dead from being tired
of loving and living with them

three men who had no where to go
missing their wives, needing homes
where laughter and living bodies
would be milling around

they didn't know where to go
who to offend who to kick
their dogs had long gone
to their own dog heaven

so they met and told tall tales
watched the girls with swaying hips
drank their beer until they puked
and drank their beer all over again

the random cuts of life unlived
of thoughts unsaid unshared
ungrateful when they were full
ungrateful when they went empty

just three men with greying hair
with dying hearts
meeting at the roadside cafe
and thought that's life.
