Paradise
The razor cuts my heart.
The coldness shuts my eyes.
And silence is all I hear,
As winds of change arise.
'Live my life while total darkness
Holds me deep in its throes.
'Live my life the vision of a man
That no one really knows.
They see a painted picture,
Think they can peel the guise.
But they could never understand
What goes on behind these eyes.
For I see a world of many,
And I see a world of few.
But I couldn't love just anyone,
I had to love just you.
So as I walk the future,
And the past adieu;
Most everyplace, I see that face
But just walk right on through
Because I know my destiny
Might lie on wings of chance.
Still, when I stare in the mirror,
I see no backwards glance.
For I have a tunnel vision
That draws me toward a light
I'm not sure what I'll find there,
But I know I've paid the price.
Still I may never reach it,
And effort alone may not suffice.
But if I do, maybe it's true,
I'll find my paradise.
A land where there's no sorrow.
A land where there's no pain.
A land where there's no emptiness.
A land where there's no rain.
A place that's not a giant stage,
Where I just act out my part...
But a place where it won't hurt to dream,
Or rest an aching heart.
