Slay the fire breathing dragon...! One of my best friends, himself a painter, once told me that my poetry wasn't even poetry. He told me it was worthless junk. It devastated me and I stopped writing for months. All I could think about was his horrible critique. He's been dead for 17 years and it still bothers me. But I have been posting my poems on line ever since he said that 18 years ago, and while no one generally says negative things about anyone's poetry on any of the websites I have been on, I have received enough positive feedback from other poets that I feel very good about my work. And while that happened about half-way back in time since I started writing poems that I feel are real poems, I do recognize that what I had written up to that point was not nearly as good as what I have written since that day. Perhaps it was something of an incentive and inspiration to improve as a poet. If I didn't think you were a poet worthy of being read, I would stop reading and commenting and you might wonder if I had died. Thanks for creating verse worth reading! JJ

Like you I only follow people the write poetry worth reading. You are so easy
to follow and an obviously highly skilled wordsmith. You write things that make
me think 'I wish I had written that' :-)

Worry not - it would take much, much more than a bad critique to make me stop
hell it makes me more determined!
