Imagine That
Five hundred years ago
everyone believed
the earth was flat
can you imagine that
wasn't this about when
Columbus discovered
the new world...we all
know and we can see
a whole lot has
happened since then
the new world Columbus
found is long gone
our world keeps going
around and around
we all positively know
the earth isn't flat
because this is what
we are told...imagine that

I am pretty sure Magellan proved the world was spherical sailing around the world, and long before then many people understood the world was not flat.
But not to take away your meaning of the poem. I am surprised at the things many people believe. But we learn by experience and interpret those things either to fit previous knowledge or because it was told to them. There are people who believe that the Earth is hollow and there is a whole subterranean society living there. Go figure.
