The Only Way to Love You..as far as I know �

I don�t think about it�.
Willingly look away
When you are slobbering down your chin
And have orange or red sauce,
(Cheetos or marinara?)
Staining the skin around your lips
Jelly smeared on your shirt,
(Or is that ice cream?). � �
I avoid your eyes,
Dishwater dull�.
Like looking into the eyes of a dead man
And I�ve seen a dead man or two,
Plastic horror.
I can love you
And I can hate you
And today I hate you.

Tomorrow
I can love you again
When your eyes clear
And your skin loses its sallow pallor
I�ll lovingly entwine your fingers into mine
And we�ll pretend together
That this never happened. �

As odd as it may sound. This is love in my opinion. Its not always fireworks and sugar cookies. Its standing by your man or woman regardless. If the times you hate him still make you want to wait for the times you love him. Then how much hate is there really? Seems like it has become understanding.

DW-that is profound! I love that you said this. I know I describe the ultimate co-dependent relationship, but you don't choose who you love. You just love. And hate is only another word for pain.

I desperately need those heart hugs! It is a twister, if anything ever was. Debris and beauty...desolation and fulfillment. I do think...I think my decision is just...ignore. Denial. It's the only way.

When I first began reading this I associated it with a parent who was suffering from a terminal disease such as Alzheimer's. The push and pull of emotions. The hating to hate the situation and all the pain and anguish it brings.

But then I read the comments. However this is read, it's very well written and portrays a truth that we, in all our humanity and mustered strength of holding on, rarely admits.

yes..and we are all FLAWED!!..in different ways and varying degrees, but not a one of us lives up to some sort of bullshit image and the wise among us wouldn't sacrifice our independent free spirits for that so-called 'perfection. Much of the beauty in art is the flaws, human frailties, habits, etc that are expressed. That's why I'm such a huge fan of the late Layne Staley and his writing for Alice in Chains..he created great beauty out of often great ugliness and in just a short 34 years total..

and he tried to get help to kick heroin some 14 times both during and after his musical career, yet still couldn't overcome it..perhaps fate had more to do with it than free will..who knows?..

I love this piece too because it speaks to the unconditional, which is rare and the only true form of love; the other types are phony posers..and any relationship that close is yin/yang, dark/light, love/hate also..it's an ongoing dance that shifts like the tides and moods, mercurial..
