flickering lights (in avalon)
it was a rainy saturday.
off and on, on and off again.
it was decided to stop and pay
our respects again.
the sun was buried in the clouds
much like the dead
beneath these four wheels.
flags and flowers that were left
have been drenched
in this dour hour of remembrance.
passenger side door blocked my view
of the stone.
I was told two small white flowers
had grown upon the scar
behind it.
I remained in the car
and didn't really seem to mind it
as my mind was regrettably
elsewhere.
but then
the lights began to flicker.
off and on, on and off again.
and I was sitting there, unsure
of what to make of it.
who was there at the time?
or was it a faulty electrical line?
was it the battery, or was it age?
those flickering lights in avalon
on a rainy saturday.
off and on, on and off again.
it was decided to stop and pay
our respects again.
the sun was buried in the clouds
much like the dead
beneath these four wheels.
flags and flowers that were left
