It's not up to me
It’s not up to me
It’s not up to me for the world to get better,
I’m merely the voice of its imminent fall,
When wars and despair kill the poor and the beggar,
I sit in my chair and I drink my Pinot.
It’s not up to me for the world to get better,
I’m nothing, just noise and a face, nothing more,
If Governments steal and our taxes get greater,
I put on my shorts and I go for a walk.
It’s not up to me for the world to get better,
I’m nobody, naught but a wandering soul,
When speed trains derail and the friend becomes traitor,
I put my feet up and I grab the remote.
It’s not up to me for the world to get better,
It can’t be, truth is, I’ve no interest at all,
If children grow up in starvation and terror,
There’s none I can do, I just go ‘bout my own.
