Believe

If only love could learn
a line or two from Lazurus
and raise from the dead
whatever it was got us
through our first winter .
Following the rose petals
upon the snow to the cabin
in the quiet forest where
two broken lovers licked
their wounds and healed
under three wool blankets
and a black lab as embers
crackled in the fireplace
burning doubts and fears
into visions of hope scripted
in smoke across vacant skies.

Though the air is no longer
cold still hearts have yet
to thaw as we lie in separate
mattresses rented miles
away and I wonder if my
naked body dances in your
dreams as your butterscotch
breasts surely sway in mine.
Loins still aching in muscle
memory of your hugging pudge
of hips and I can't help but dare
wonder as a thread from your
silk robe trails the first evening
star if constellations in your
neck of the woods whisper of
where I can be found tonight.
