The Way of Life
None of us
wants to die.
Even those who take
their own lives
really only want
what we all want -
to be loved.
But die we must,
each of us,
And every time
I can see it coming
for someone dear,
I yield to the inevitable
and try to shield
the pain,
shroud the fear
and surround their Souls
with Love.
Send them on their way
Peacefully, meaningfully
towards something else
or nothing...
No way of knowing which.
Only one thing
I can control -
as their heart beats its last,
mine beats close by.
At their final breath,
our lips touch
with a final goodbye.
Embryos sent to a new realm
knowingly wombed in love.
I can do no more.
