Poem M: Midsummer Eve
When fireflies flicker through the bullfrog night
And the black bats swoop in the fading light,
I dance in the shadows of Midsummer Eve;
My breath joins the tune of the rustling leaves.
When the stars croon lullabies in milk-white light
And ‘skeeters fill the air with their buzz and bite,
I dance in the shadows of Midsummer Eve;
My breath joins the tune of the rustling leaves.
When crawdaddies flee from the black-masked ‘coons,
And the river ripples with the cries of the loons,
I dance in the shadows of Midsummer Eve;
My breath join the tune of the rustling leaves.
When the owls flirt with the buttery moon,
And whippoorwills whisper, “Morning comes too soon,”
I dance in the shadows of Midsummer Eve;
My breath joins the tune of the rustling leaves.
Note: this poem is part of a challenge I undertook to write a poem for every letter of the alphabet.
