Darkness Falls Near

I never really heard the screams
of agony after that day,
I spent the rest of existence
playing in sunshine — and thinking,
I never wanted to see or feel it again,

And there is the empty space
where the colorless light gathers;
that day exists, it never leaves
here, and it’s so lonely,

I walk in deadness, hanging
in geometrics of the living room
forever, made to look like an eyelet
curtain of crystal blue sea shells
sheer to the bountifulness of the water below,

There we were again, gathering
the rats in the basement
so the screams of torment wouldn't
scare them…and the blood glistens.
