Ocean Side Thoughts

Sitting by the dyke all alone overlooking the airport's runway
Tuning the world out with my headphones in, thinking my day away
Watching the planes carry the different passengers to another land
Some travel with a purpose while others travel without a plan
All these jumbled thoughts running through my complicated mind
The exact thoughts that I've tried so hard to leave behind
Sometimes I feel like I'm shrouded in complete darkness
In order to protect myself, I feel like I need to be heartless
Looking around us and seeing nothing but liars and cheats
Frequently it feels like we're fighting for turf on the streets
People don't expect us to have the experiences that we do
There are too few that understand our thoughts and views
In this life you feel like you are either falling or flying
Every waking moment, you can either choose to be living or dying

I don't want to let go of the most amazing woman I've ever met
But if her heart isn't one for me to love or for me to keep
Perhaps it's time for me to let her go and set my own heart free
Maybe this time fate wasn't on my side and I've got to let it be
She will always hold a special place deep inside my heart
Her eyes, her smile, and her personality all played a big part
She came, she saw and she conquered my heart and soul
She is the reason that my heart has once again become whole
Even though you may never see me as more than a friend
I surely hope that my feelings doesn't cause our friendship to end

Whenever my mind feels like it's stuck in a cloud of haze
And no matter where I turn, I'm faced with an endless maze
That's when I decided to take a couple of shots or have a beer or two
The alcohol might just let the memories in my mind drop right through
It temporary numbs the pain I feel with my heart, soul and mind
The kind that comes because you can't put anything that hurt you behind
But now that it's the start of a new year and I have made promises
I am going to be filled with positivity and be completely honest
