Bipolar Blues
You grew warmer as time passed by
You began to cry less and less and didn't ask me why I had done it
You threw less fits than before and I'd catch you listening to music
You trick me sometimes with your smiles; I know they're fake but I don't do anything
I listened to you sing while I stared up at the ceiling and I downed a drink
I think I remembered your face at the time
Burning rhymes into my mind with your intoxicating singing
I downed another drink, the taste lingering
I stumbled to the sink where you brushed your teeth, lyrics garbled through bubbles and spit
The contents of my stomach hit the porcelain and I wiped my mouth
Your mood had gone south and you gazed at me, shocked
"You've been drinking again!" You balked, as if I had somehow done you wrong
I shook my head and you resumed your singsong, oblivious
I hid the bottle and listened to you fuss with the faucet
And ignored the voice in my head that screamed, "Toss it!"
