A Roaring Void of Machinery        (SEMI-FILLER)

A roaring void of machinery
Charges before a wrath of splintered sand.

As it passes, two dull heads oddly bob to the side,
Noting the scenery of madness,
A lone stranger wailing in the ditches.

They waved when I looked up...
They waved because it was the proper thing to do...
They’ve been doing it for years... it’s automatic...
They don’t even need consciousness to perform it...
They waved because I was harmless... it didn’t matter...
I held no gun... no nasty obstruction...

When dear world... when will you ever learn..?

It’s not about age... not about appearance...
Not about nationality, character, ownership, ability...

Madman - Why are you cursing about?

Motorist - It... it’s too hot!
Things are... are going too fast!
Gotta’ get there in time...
She’s demanding satisfaction...
I’ll be yelling soon!

My god... my tire’s blown!

Madman - Maybe you shouldn’t anger...
It’s only of this world...

It’s like I made them have an end in these failing devices.
Like I... expected them to be slow and stupid,
So that I would know who... I... really am.

They probably don’t even know that they are
Actually sitting... when they drive.

Their sense of time-travel is a day without sleep...

Porcupine - Why are you doing this then?

Jim - All the books have been read,
All the songs have been sung,
All the mountains climbed...

Everyone has discovered the same words...
The perfect trip has already occurred...

Porcupine - Why then, must you recreate
These things for yourself?

Jim - I’m trying something new...

Madness...
It has never been perfectly attempted before.

Porcupine - You sure do not go far in a day.

Jim - You just don’t get It, do you?
It isn’t about going from A to B
With a roll of film...

Looking for pretty mountain sunsets,
And a pack-sack of dinner conversations
With friends when you return...

This journey is a trip through the Mind.
