Let me make you a part of me.
Girl I'm looking for something deeper than you're used to.
I've got this heart that I'd like to give to you.
It's slightly used. Cracks visible from all the times it's been broken and mended.
But it's yours if you want it.

I know it sounds reckless.
But there's something about you that makes me feel like I could love again.
Maybe it's that look in your eyes.
A look I know all too well
That look that tells me you've covered you heart in bubble-wrap, sealed it in a styrofoam box marked "fragile", locked it in a vault made out of your resolution to never be hurt again, and buried it in an unmarked grave as a tribute to the girl you used to be before life had its way with you.

So when I smile at you, all you see is a means to an end.
You've already got your assumptions made, and your shield goes up.
In those two seconds, you've already played judge and jury and you're all set to shoot me down before I even open my mouth.
Yes, it's easy to see you've been hurt before.

And I know this might be too presumptuous of me
But I'd like us to sweep away the shards of broken hearts and promises littering our lives.
I'd like us to start anew.

I'm aching to put the pieces of your broken heart back together.
Maybe it's because I've always been a sucker for jigsaw puzzles.

Open your heart to me and I promise you that one day poets will write poems about the poems that I wrote for you.

And people will sing songs about the songs that we sang on days when we seemingly had nothing to sing about.

Now I don't know why...But I feel like my salvation lies in saving you
