It is cruel:
You can't make anyone love you
There is no purchase
So extravagant
Nor a flower so splendid
To persuade a heart
To feel what it can't.
So never love too deeply
Or traverse a path too steeply
Immersed in another empire
Where you are the joker
In someone else's court.

excellent Ink - love the sentiment and the warning to others about loving to deeply - I got caught out with this a couple of times but then learned that it was indeed possible to love too much

It can bring on a full retreat. Putting one's heart out there and then watching it get kicked around the field doesn't inspire risk. The price of exposure's just too high. Personally, I'm inspired by what I see and read, Virginia. You're among the royalty in that court.

Poignant. I can relate very tragically with this. This is why it is important to love yourself before anything else, and never give anybody the power to destroy that/you.

Virginia,, you wear your heart on your sleeve. This is powerful stuff. I love this poem. I have posted a poem called 'love is a strange thing' which you may find interesting.
