Under a Roman Star

Under a Roman star
Her immaculate flesh
Construed before me,

Her softer cheeks whisper wisdom
Golden locks, fresh and waving
In the royal rays of dawn...

Her chest like bubbles
Loose and bouncing
In the shimmering bonnet,

Flowery shoulders of silk
That milky shape
Slipping in the shades,

With summer and the sun
With angels breathing
Motion in her limbs...

Below the Roman glade
In slithering mist
And silent sun sparkling,

There below, there below,

Her bosom softly erects
By that morning yawn
The first yawn of beauty,

Symmetrical profusion
Coiling flesh like sun flames
Writhing in silver grass...

I stare from wretched branches above...
Meagre mild, I look beyond and On...

But ‘tis the lively fire
That dies in ash:

The early bird
May fetch the worm,

But flesh like sky
Would drop as stones
To the milky tickle...

For the bird without the worm
Shall starve and swiftly die...

Shall die and swiftly fly
To Heaven.
