International Women's Day---Our Common Parent

Like a cry in the desert that no one will hear
the glue that codifies our social well being
has festering, long open wounds
some fear the patient has a date with annihilation
that can't be avoided

The masters of war that profit from bloodshed
have ties to so much that can't be avoided
even living off the grid
basic tenants of everyday life
transportation, taxes, road services, health care
tied into those actions that allow
stuffed shirts to engage in a military campaign
but not declare war
send troops in harms way but avoid a sense of shared sacrifice
and overlook the deaths of civilians while conditioned killers
are lauded on the silver screen

And yet what is learned can be unlearned
old prejudices can be overcome
a klansman can come to support the first black president in the US
Ireland can stop tossing bombs around
Germany once again one nation
Africans of all colors can vote in Cape Town

But one path is much harder to correct
and doesn't respond kindly to attempts at foolery
this mother has a system that is called eco
and the damage some say if not too late to be corrected
is nearing that point
species have been eliminated
the first human could not live
in this world of preservatives
maybe it isn't too late
but I am not in any hurry to put that belief to the test
