A girl
I met a girl whose name I can't recall
She was a friend that meant a lot
She was who I'd always call
But slowly she lost her grip on thought
Her mind crumbling, she let it rot
She couldn't remember who she was
Let alone say what she did
What she did everyday
When she got home from school
She'd cry herself to sleep at night an unending fight
Yet she'd pull herself together somehow sewing up lost parts
She put on a smile that looked so strong
When inside nothing could be felt
She lied daily
She became so good at it she nearly forgot the truth herself
I don't think I want to see her the way she is now
She barely comes around anymore
Barely makes a sound
It's gotten so bad she can't pretend
Because a smile can't be forced
Her voice cracks
every time she sees me she says
I remind her of someone she had once met
In the back of her mind she's clueless to the world outside
Playing in the playground she created just to hide
She's just a little girl so innocent and sweet
Yet they chose to hurt her
Let her innocence drop the once sweet girl
Can't tell right from wrong she misplaces
Her items every now and again
She can't change her own clothes
I don't know when this began
I go and help her and can't help but to stare
At all of the beautiful scars layered on her skin
Because I once met a girl I can hardly remember
In the back of this playground
Her scars were like mine
Amazingly profound
She was a friend that meant a lot
