Flesh and Bones
As Jean- Luc Godard wrote
A story should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, but not necessarily in that order
My story begins with an end
The puppy love and young heartbreaks i've felt before was nothing compared to the real thing
I have exchanged "i love you's" like cheap candy
I was 16 when i first laid eyes on him
Drunk and googly eyed at the man across the fire
Age was never a big deal for me
Always had a thirst for the older men
And when you said that you had no boundaries
Something stirred inside me at the sound of your voice
igniting a fire that would never go out
We exchanged kind words and sweet nothings
Then you disappeared
Burned from the flame you lit and carelessly walked away from
When i finally got immune to the flame
You came back to the structure of flesh and bones you nearly burnt down
You came back and you re-patched the holes
You stayed this time
And you made the fire even bigger
Fate, is what i thought it was
That we found our way back to each other for a reason
To me that reason was love
17 and madly in love with a man who lit a fire inside me and made my big brown eyes glow and heart dance at the sound of his voice
So certain that this was it, i had found the man id spend my life with till death due us part
I gave my everything
In the end, you gave nothing
You poured gasoline on the fire
You left and it burnt everything i had
The structure that you built back up
Was now nothing but ash
You returned, only to dance in the ashes with the flame you ignited in someone else
While i was busy choking on the smoke you filled me with
The end
That is how my story starts
