You never have to hide
If we get tangled in the wrong words,
if we get strangled by regret,
it’s our love of life and tension
that will save us in the end.
We tiptoe on
and off the line
and totter on the edge,
the flat line growing closer
with each sweet and stuttered breath.
There is always strength in numbers
thankful now, we’re not alone
gathered in a dark place
that our heartbeats turn to home.
Collecting all the refuse
broken bottles, empty shells,
we made it into heaven
even if born into hell.
The wrong words that I wasted
became the sounds that drew you in
as your fingers reach out for me,
I can feel that they have sinned.
And I want desperatly to feel you
feel the affinity you disguise
because baby when you’re with me
you never have to hide.
