The See-Saw Diaries

Early sunshine sprawled out,
Over innocent, fragile faces.
Rays of light shone through,
And filled up empty spaces.

A gleam of bliss came through,
At every visible angle.
What then was easy fun,
Became a mindless tangle.

Life was filled with playgrounds,
The sand, the sun, the swings.
But don't forget the wounds,
Scraped knees and small bee stings.

Big round lollipops,
And dresses for Christmas Eve.
Premeditated play dates,
When our parents planned to meet.

Now we slave over books and chores,
We wish the day away.
We're left alone to defend on our own,
All work and forgotten play.

Girls obsessed with boys and looks,
What a lifeless sight to see.
Boys obsessed with games and chests,
It's nothing new to me.

We split up into little groups,
That's when we all started hating.
We brag of our acceptance,
So when will we stop segregating?

The misfits start drinking,
The broken homes broke some more.
The princesses start sinning,
"Daddy's little whore."

Homework is forgotten,
Cell phones now come first.
Our innocence is shattered,
We all turned for the worst.
