Concerns from the pews

"When somebody asks me what I believe,
I change the subject," she states from the front of the class,
"I know that they won't understand, they just want to argue."
And I cringe as I taste blood from biting my tongue,
my lips pressed tightly together to hold my thoughts in.
I want to say that based on her other responses
it doesn't seem she knows WHAT she believes
but it's clear that her beliefs come from
a strong sense of self righteousness.

The disgusting heathens could never understand
the God that loves her, oh so very much.
"Why can't EVERYBODY just feel Christ's love
and read His gospel and know it's true, like I do?"
She misquotes the three scriptures she knows
from Sunday School; appropriate for any situation.

I grow tired, watching from the pews,
as the self righteous
one after another
walk up to the pulpit,
puffing themselves up to look bigger and better
like social masturbation.
