Addiction: theory # 1141,63
take yourself back:
the first time
your father
scooped you up
by the armpits
and spun
around the room
you were terrified
when he put you down
your legs
couldn't carry you
how you laughed
and fell
got up
then staggered back
to be scooped
again
the first time
you'd kept your eyes open
remember when
you started to spin
on your own
what were you thinking
the first time
your father
scooped you up
by the armpits
and spun
around the room
you were terrified
when he put you down
your legs
couldn't carry you
how you laughed
and fell
got up
then staggered back
to be scooped
again
the first time
you'd kept your eyes open
remember when
you started to spin
on your own
what were you thinking

So insightful, Eamonn, as we chase that elusive first great spin . Thankfully you can still spin a good tale !!!

in the midst of a million theories and arguments, getting that first taste of bliss and having it followed by a grounded, down, sense of nothingness, always deserves a good, hard look.
If we can't learn very young how to soothe our souls during silence and sit through pain, we are doomed no matter how we spend the up-time.
well written piece with great depth and truth
shine on, bro

that's very true, Miki. the title kinda refers to the fact that in addiction there is nothing concrete anyway, it's all theory
I don't think it's necessarily bad to want more or want something again. drugs have a bad rep cos they destroy lives, most drugs ( natural drugs) aren't physically addictive though
thanks for dropping by, Mikki. and for leaving your thought print

this is a perfect picture of an addictive personality. perfect.
people usually apply addiction to a substance, but people can be addicted to so much more. people, places, smells. the list goes one. i adore this one.
(and i might just be stalking you now! in the most non-creepy way possible.)

I dunno about perfect, I have a minor degree in drug and alcohol addiction, there's nothing concrete in the why's. it's all theory. my theory is that children might develop an addictive personality from many things in childhood that they do again and again
...it's a rough theory, but then it's no worse than some of the others :)'
thanks much, for checkin' out my scribblings and leaving your thoughts. much appreciated

it is a valid theory, i think. you spin and spin and spin to get dizzy/get an adrenaline rush. then when that's not enough, you start doing other things. quite possibly healthy at first. then that's not enough so you turn to something else that causes a similar release. and it goes on and on because it's never enough.

The title alone is an absolute win. Then you take us all back to that ride, and so simply - fantastic. And finally, the theory, which I'll not argue with, haha. There's always an undercurrent of (what is it?) softness, acceptance, I don't know. But anyway it leaves it easy for me to smile and say nice write, man.

terrible sorry I missed your comment, Kaatho
it seemed the only way to go for a title, I thought of it about half way through the body, and like you, liked it in an instance. the theory itself, well, I had a feeling of a vision, set the scenes to words so the feeling could swim among them ..and you dipped your toes ..and you know what you felt *takes bow *
cheers for dropping in , Lady

I'm trawling through people's back catalogs of a whole chunk of time I have missed out on, so expect me to pull a couple of pieces out of the ark over the coming weeks.
Where the sweet Lord has this one been hiding. Highly, highly relevant, as you well know why.
What I like about this is the deep rooted comfort you've got placed in here. Like addiction is some sort of blanket you can curl up in, and feel safe. There just aren't enough adjectives I can use for this.
Reading listed.

Hullo there, missus
I'm particularly fond of this one myself. each time I revisit there's a nice feeling of accomplishment waiting to jump up and wear me
deep rooted comfort.
Thanks most kind for the visit, welcome back, and thanks for your thoughts
