All Those Trials...
We have closed and opened many books
gone down roads with cracks and hooks
when the final page of my book is read
say not that a path to bloodshed was where I led
"My Lord
I have read this book so many times
but nowhere can i find the page that says
what I experienced today has any grace"
Lost many who just tried to right a wrong
provide hope to the weak and make them strong
hatred's wrath weighs so many tons
and peace will never be achieved via the barrels of the guns
"Now i Know that life is ment to be hard
thats how I learn to appreciate my God
Though my courage made me try
I can tell you i won't hide
Because the footprints show you are by my side"
When we look is it just what others told us that we see
fears consume the trait that units everyone
there is humanity that places a greater call
can be hidden but never extinguished
for even the most high and mighty can topple and fall
"You can lie to a child with a smilin' face
Tell me that color aint about race
You can cast the first stones you can break my bones
But your never gonna break Your never gonna break my Faith"
Tell me how can we allow people to act in our names for so long
lie to ourselves and pretend that it isn't wrong
the menace that we are unquestioningly asked to fight
ends up looking back at us in the mirror light
"So My Lord
Won't you help them to understand
that when someone takes the life of an innocent man
Well they never really Won because all they've really done
is set the Soul Free where it's supposed to be"
We are at a time when the institutions guiding society
are ridiculed and scorned for past mistakes
yet for those who are not whole do we not still ache
turn the corner and find those who refuse to care
like carbon monoxide fouling the air
And "you can lie to a child with a smilin' face
Tell me that color aint about race
You can cast the first stones you can break my bones
But your never gonna break Your never gonna break my Faith"
"Never Gonna Break My Faith", Aretha Franklin, lyrics by Bryan Adams, Eliot Kennedy and Andrea Remanda
