Falling into Me

Her laughter was infectious; it reached out to me from across the room
I turned and picked her out immediately
The confident, yet subtly cocky way she stood by the window holding court
Head thrown back in full belly laugh as her friends regaled her with a story
She owned the room without even trying, this was her domain
Her body language screamed “I am who I am and I’m fucking happy with it”
She drew everyone in and she made time for each pledge that came to pay homage
I felt useless trying to resist the insidious pull towards her
Like everyone else, I was assimilated
Who is she; what’s her secret; where did she come from; who really has the scoop
The closer I edged towards her the more confused I became
The angle of her head, the thrust of her hip; the eloquence of her hands that seemed to do as much of her talking as the low hum of her voice that never seemed to go above stage whisper
Why was she so familiar...I searched in the recesses of my mind but couldn’t find her; her essence was unforgettable but I couldn’t place her.
The charm, confidence, charisma; the way she was at ease with herself and everyone else around her; the way she gave her attention to everyone as if they were the only one in the room
I knew we had met before so I determinedly took that final step that took me into her space; her aura was powerful and palpable; I had to force myself to breathe to stead my nerves
“Hi” I said, “I know we’ve met somewhere before but I can’t seem to remember where however, I never forget a presence”
She turned and said “Took you long enough”
My eyes widened, my heart raced, my palms got clammy and I couldn’t find my voice; I stared at her, seeing but not believing.
“Hello you”, she said
“Hello me”, I croaked.
