Just What is Love
how much do you love me
how much do you care
insecurities pregnant in each words
doubts constipated thoughts
just what is love
daddy's angst with his boot
mommy's barbed wired mush
or little John's icky kisses
is it a text on a telephone
symbols sent with flowers
or poems written to the skies
proclaiming eternal devotion
or is it a little happy song
playing in the heart
sending sparkles into the eyes
calling his name in silent joy
is it the lightness of the feet
going around in mundane everyday
eagerly ticking the calender
countdown to happy days
just how much do you love me
is it as full as mine or deeper
than the hyacinth lake
I wonder, so I asked, she says

Hmmm...this is one concept with many definitions. Everybody wants love;we look for love even where we know we're only going to find a shadow of it. This is a beauttiful piece Grace,thanks for sharing.

Okay. The first stanza seems to be about love's obstacles, insecurities and constipated thoughts. Fragile egos getting in the way.
The second stanza reflects back to family dysfunction, an abusive father, toxic mother and useless brat sibling.
The third stanza observes the superficial forms "love" takes in this day and age, Hallmark testimonials. Texting and flowers just don't cut it.
The next two stanzas are I believe more hopeful. There's "sparkles into the eyes" and "lightness of the feet."
The last stanza is a challenge in italics, kind of a lay it on your line. Is your potential lover really there? Does he or she qualify?
I hope you've found someone with love as full as yours.

Hi Crowfly, thanks for your observation. :) you are so on the spot there. The five stanzas are like rambling thoughts of what is Love...parents, sibling...feelings. The italics are the thoughts and actions of the protagonist that triggered the five stanzas...like a prequel. Boggled the mind? Thats just me.
