Change in Worry
She sat beneath the gentle branches
And was filled with a comforting sense of innocence and endless youth.
This was where the careless imaginations of her and her friends ran wild.
Frivolous games and make believe stories were the only things she needed to worry about.
She sat beneath the now changing leaves
And was filled with an unfamiliar feeling of self consciousness.
This was where she listened to her friends gossip and mindlessly chatter about the weird girls in her class.
Wanting to fit in with the popular girls at school was what she began to worry about.
She sat beneath the bare limbs
And was filled with a reoccurring sense of rejection.
This was where she ran after her friends called her fat and caused even the boys in her class to laugh.
Finding someone to call a true friend in the world was all she really worried about.
She lay beneath the snow covered branches
And was filled with utter loneliness.
This was where she came after her parents told her about the unbearable divorce.
Making sure her body was as numb as her nonexistent feelings were was all she wanted to worry about.
She sat beneath the budding branches
And was filled with a new age of hope and curiosity.
This was where she and her two best friends came after their first day of high school.
Creating a good reputation and building up her golden years was what she thought was important to worry about.
She sat beneath the twinkling trees
And was filled with a new found sense of belonging.
This was where she had her first kiss, at sixteen, with a boy two years older than her.
Not losing this beautiful love was the only thing she worried about.
She sat under the swaying branches
And was ultimately overwhelmed with confusion.
This was where she and her friends decided to not care about the harsh rumors that were being spread about them through the school.
Being happy again was what she needed to worry about.
She lay beneath the dark end of summer leaves
And was filled with emptiness.
This was where she cried when she missed the only people in the world that she belonged with.
Getting a call from someone three thousand miles away was what she worried about.
She sat beneath the falling leaves
And was filled with feelings she could not decipher.
This was where she sat alone after she had been abandoned and kicked to the curb by who seemed like the last person who cared.
Pretending that she was okay so people wouldn't bother her was the last thing she worried about.
She sat on that hallow trunk for the first time in what seemed like forever
And felt nothing.
This was where she took one of many hits that took away everything she had ever gone through.
Eventually she had nothing left to worry about.
And was filled with a comforting sense of innocence and endless youth.
