I love you
Waiting in anticipation for you.
Beeps in the background steady, knees shaking, hands too.
Painful cries, I close my eyes.
First one person crying, then two.
I hold out my hands, as if waiting for a surprise.
My baby girl, placed in my arms, my wife and I share a smile.
Prepared to pour love, into my new born child.
She squeezes my thumb, my wife whispers, Delilah.
She's got your eyes, my wife says.
I gaze into them, and kiss her head.
I ponder endless possibilities,
for 6 pounds, 8 ounces of gorgeous purity.
Then I'm told, Delilah will never grow old and given deepest condolences.
I'm told to hold tight, and say I love you.
Please no more condolences.
I hug my wife, I hug so tight, I feel her collapse beneath me.
Painful cries, I close my eyes.
First one person crying, then two.
I'm just glad I got the time to say,
I love you, I love you, I love you.
Beeps in the background steady, knees shaking, hands too.
Painful cries, I close my eyes.
First one person crying, then two.
I hold out my hands, as if waiting for a surprise.
