hellfire
while all the still bodies lay
somebody shot me the wounded say
for a flag and cause
and all of their flaws
they died today
and here they lay
but who won the war of attrition?
the cemetary thinks they make a nice addition
and their wives mourn
until the idea is born
i am richer without him
i have every right to doubt him
his friend is coming for some honey
i'd love to spend his money
this is a letter from your dear
the last thing they will ever hear
but what of the boys that live?
i hope they can forgive
she's not an angel or a star
people is all that they are
so he goes home
all aching and broken bones
but he will know he stood
for the right and the good
and he was shot for this one thing
so he can kiss the presidents ring
they go to places and murder them
and the president wonders of ferguson
somebody shot me the wounded say
for a flag and cause
and all of their flaws
they died today
and here they lay
but who won the war of attrition?
