You and Me-Birds of a Feather
This is a poem I wrote for a very close friend about our relationship, so it's more personal than my others, but I included this because I felt it should be shared. This is a little rough and I know it needs some work, but I hope you enjoy.
The first meeting
A thin thread
A brief exchange of words
Strangers with a common association
Two small eggs together
The week progresses
A small rope
An offer and praise
Associates with a friendly past
The shells begin to crack
The month goes on
A thin wire
Enjoyment of each others company
Friendship born anew
Hatchlings together in the nest
Pages on the calender fly by
A thick cord
Personal information and a close relationship
Best friends rise up
First steps onto the branch
Months later
A steel chain
Trust but distance
One rises above as the association grows
One stays in the nest as the other one soars away
Time progresses
A rusty iron chain
Distance and obedience
One feels lost from the one who rose
The one who soars visits the one left behind often
The sands of time fall
Still the chain gets weaker
Reassurance and warning
The lost one feels uncertain
The one left behind longs to soar with its friend
The seasons pass
The chain is shattered
Stress and broken trust
The one who rose is hurt by the lost one
The one who flies comes back to an empty nest
The clock slows down
The pieces lie still
Loneliness and devastation
The lost one drifts along sadly
The one who soars flies off alone
The pendulum stops swinging
A frayed rope
Uncertainty and wariness
Words exchanged are sparse and brief
The one who soars passes its old friend in the sky
The midnight bell tolls
A knotted rope
Apology and forgiveness
Both mend the old bond
They roost together in the old nest
Time resumes its flow
An unbreakable bond
Renewal and acceptance
The bond is strengthened again
The two fly off together at last
