Just A Number

Blurred graphs and inequalities
Forced lessons and poor attempts at humour
Is this really a place you call a learning area?
Unengaging power points, I could find a better use of my time…
You tell me “you don’t need to know that yet!”
Forcing a creative block on my mind
Do you really see me as anything other than a grade?
A number that determines my “knowledge”
No. I may not be a genius, and yes, my marks are below average;
But what of be do you know beyond that?
I have a passion for the arts.
That was quoted by Edgar Allen Poe, not Shakespeare.
And yes, indeed I do enjoy classic literature from time to time
Now tell me…did you know any of that?
No, of course you didn’t.
Because I’m just a number
Because the knowledge in my head is not of the type you care of.
And one day when there is a lack of creativity in the world you’ll all exclaim; “what happened?”  ...”where are they?”
We’re here.
Behind those buildings, next to the recreation centre, volunteering, and silently doodling away.
And we are not going to come out as easy as you think…
Because we’ve always been told “stop what you’re doing! Get on with your work!”
For all we wanted to be, was more than just that number.
