Part of Me

There seems to be a part of me
That I can't deal with half the time
She's annoying, she's persistent
And always tries a bit too hard

She gives her all at times she shouldn't
Accepts good when it isn't enough
Never knows, but always believes
And that's where trouble seems to start

You can't always follow your heart
Sometimes you gotta use your head
I've told her this many times
But she still thinks she knows best

Then when disappointment comes from being wrong
She wants me to pick up the pieces
She doesn't understand how tiring it is
An endless mess I can't keep cleaning

I don't know what she expects of me
How am I supposed to live this way?
She wants to help everyone else
But then ends up needing help herself

Before I never used to mind assisting
Back when her reasons made some sort of sense
But now we're at a point where nothing is achieved
Just a vicious cycle with very few benefits

She really needs to learn some lessons
Don't give your time to potential
Stop basing things on what people might want
Only focus on what you know they do

You cannot put yourself out
For people who don't want you in
And sometimes, you may have done all they needed
The problem is it's never enough for you

Why aren't you ever satisfied?
Why does it bother you to give less than you are capable of?
Who told you that you have to go above and beyond?
You do not have to risk breakage to help someone find a fix

You're going to burn yourself out quick
If you keep heading down this road
And it's time to let this go
Before it becomes more destructive than not

You can still love as much as you desire
You can still lend a hand whenever it's required
I know, it feels right for you to try
But you cannot let it kill who you are

Because yes, you're frustrating
Yes, your decisions can be a bit crazy
But you always mean well with your intentions
And I don't want that part of me to die
