Saying Goodnight
Oh, how I wanted to stay
But I couldn't
It would have been wrong in so many ways
Or, would it?
I didn't want to find out
Curious as I may have been
I had to leave before all doubt
Had the chance to sweep in
I knew just what I wanted then
But I also knew what I best not touch
Before it could begin it had to end
Wasn't willing to get too caught up
Thoughts rushed through my mind
Imagination on overdrive
Silence of a different kind
It made me feel alive
My hands had direction
If they'd only have extended
You had my full attention
I couldn't have pretended
And when I tried to turn to leave
I felt something pull me back to where you lay
Your safety was all that mattered to me
And I wanted to stay, to keep it this way
But I couldn't let it happen
In case it wasn't right to do
So I just went with the understanding that
I had to say goodnight to you...
But I couldn't
It would have been wrong in so many ways
Or, would it?
I didn't want to find out
Curious as I may have been
I had to leave before all doubt
Had the chance to sweep in
I knew just what I wanted then
But I also knew what I best not touch
Before it could begin it had to end
Wasn't willing to get too caught up
Thoughts rushed through my mind
Imagination on overdrive
Silence of a different kind
It made me feel alive
My hands had direction
If they'd only have extended
You had my full attention
I couldn't have pretended
And when I tried to turn to leave
I felt something pull me back to where you lay
Your safety was all that mattered to me
And I wanted to stay, to keep it this way
But I couldn't let it happen
In case it wasn't right to do
So I just went with the understanding that
I had to say goodnight to you...
