1969
The year of flower childern, Woodstock and Vietnam
I'm sure I was there some how
Maybe as a man fighting the war
Or as a woman proclaiming peace.
I feel that era tugging at my soul
Everything in turmoil
Each side fighting one for war, one for peace.
I know I was there I feel it
A shiver runs up my spine
Every time I hear the Eagles Hotel California
Please bring me my wine we haven't had that spirit here since 1969.
It causes me to wonder anew
Was my spirit here in one form or another?
Or was I just some where floating?
Waiting to come here and fulfill my role.

I always get this feeling when I go to Berkley or Height and Ashbury
The spirit of those times still is palatable when you walk those streets, at least to me

In the time I've been away from this site, it seems like some things some things don't change. You're still a great poet :)

This is lovely :] I love all of your poems that are looking back into the past.
Such a carefree time.
I love the last lines, by the way.

I love it. I was an almost teen that year...living in a commune with hippies much older. Such a different worldview and life then.
The societal changes erupting from the young people making stands brought us out of the mundane into an era of self exploration. The one huge despair of the time were the many who were drafted into war and upon return were ridiculed and demonized. Thankfully, "we" now understand soldiers, AND THEIR FAMILIES, are not responsible for the wickedness of war.
You write with a clear vision of a moment. :)
