A Funeral's Greetings

Once again we meet,
I wish it was under better conditions,
Sadness hovers over us, as we come to pay a last visit,
To a relative we seldom spoke to, and barely visit,

We connect our hind-side to the pews,
Greeting each other like close friends, who come to share,
Good news,

The reality of it all, we ignore,
Relatives who should be closer, but sees it as a chore,
We only gather to pay respect,
To a life we really never tried to invest,
Painting a family tree, that's less than,
Its capability,

Hoping this passing be the death,
Of a family that rarely connect,
Though smart enough to know not to cross my fingers,
Or hold my breath,
Just a suddenly determined individual,
Attempting to restore and reconnect,
The family
