Independence Day
My head hurts and it all churns
I could just stand back, watch and learn
For this world we call home
Has so much life we have yet to earn
But we stand in the light until it burns
Surviving isn't surviving
It's not what it used to be
Criticism and fitting in
All there is
People want compatibility
Blending in with an unknown crowd
No voice unless it's said out loud
Guns are a new type of glory
Raise them instead of the flag
Red, white and blue
Nope just red
Violence is key
This generation will never see
Today is Independence day
And we're breaking that chain
The economy is already tearing us down though
And we're the ones to blame
Still lighting my candles
And the sky with fireworks
Even though it doesn't matter anymore
Celebrating false hope
I'm just trying to see the light
A reason to just smile
The world is darkening
Slowly
I could just stand back, watch and learn
For this world we call home
Has so much life we have yet to earn
But we stand in the light until it burns
Surviving isn't surviving
It's not what it used to be
Criticism and fitting in
All there is
People want compatibility
Blending in with an unknown crowd
No voice unless it's said out loud
Guns are a new type of glory
Raise them instead of the flag
Red, white and blue
Nope just red
Violence is key
This generation will never see
Today is Independence day
And we're breaking that chain
The economy is already tearing us down though
And we're the ones to blame
Still lighting my candles
And the sky with fireworks
Even though it doesn't matter anymore
Celebrating false hope
I'm just trying to see the light
A reason to just smile
The world is darkening
Slowly
