ARE THERE NOT 12 HOURS IN A DAY?"(John 11.9)

Christ said, "Are there not 12 hours [of light] in a day?
Those that walk during the day don't stumble.
For they see [by] the light of this world"(John 11.9).
Here, the daylight and the darkness of the night
Are used as a metaphor for the human condition.
We all have our good side and our bad side.
We have the "new nature"(after we are saved, converted).
But we retain the "old nature" of sin-prone fallenness,
They are as different as, well, day and night,
"Doctor Jeckle/Mr Hyde" describes every man.
The message is that when our minds are lit up
By the inner presence of God, we don't sin,"stumble,"
But when our inner candle is out,
When we "forget what we look like"(James 1.23-27),
We revert back to the behavior of "the old man."
We "stumble" for we are filled with mental darkness.

The thought of God is what separates
the mind of upright from the depraved mind.
Like the presence of the Sun
separates the day from the night.

We are to "walk"(take action)during our times of daylight,
To do the good works that are needed.
We must "work..while it is day,
For 'night' is coming when no man can work"(John 9.4).

We must do good works while our good side,
Our "new nature" is in control
For when our "old nature" takes over,
"You can do nothing [good]"(John 15.5).
The point I'm making is that when we FEEL Christian
Like we should,we have to take action, doing good deeds.
For if we squander those opportunities,
The joy, self-respect, etc we gain from them
Won't be there to sustain us later.

When the "night" comes upon us,
(When our light is "out,")
Only the good, Christ-like, deeds we've done earlier
Will be there to keep us straight.
If we fall into sin during the "night"
Its because of our inaction earlier, during the "day.".

Joseph collected, stored the grain
produced during "the 7 good years,"
In preparation for "the 7 lean years"(Genesis 41.36).
If he hadn't stored up that grain ahead of time,
The people would have starved, died off.
Likewise, we are to do good - Godly - deeds,
while we have the Christian spirit,
To ward off the pagan, unsaved spirit
During the times of vulnerability,hardship,
The times of weakness that are bound to follow.

If we put off doing Godly deeds
 - even though the feeling is there -
We are setting ourselves up for failure,
We are bound to fall into serious sin in the future.

If we resist the impulse to do good (when we can)
We will surely fail to resist the temptation(to do evil) that follows.
