Cynic
We don’t believe
in the world anymore
all the hope is faded
and now you look down at me
for giving in to the darkness
that’s plagued me for years
True optimism isn’t edged
with barbed wire accents
and I’ve long stopped asking
why you keep trying to stab me
when the sun rises on rainy days
I’ve started saying
“I’m not mean, I’m just honest”
to cover up the bitch inside
every time I say something
you don’t like
I never meant
to get this bitter
I never meant to be this cruel
all my alibis justified
under the illusion of tough love
making me just another hypocrite
in my own eyes
Because I don’t believe
in the illusion of this world anymore
the one where dreams come true
and justice isn’t just a word in the dictionary
forget the fairy tales
the only thing I’m sure of is loneliness
I’ve no evidence to prove me otherwise
