Have You Ever...
You couldn't walk a mile
In my shoes
Unless you have absolutely
Nothing to lose
You think you've seen hell
The suffering and despair
You haven't seen anything
Believe me, I've been there
So don't complain about a dent
In your car's door
Or get pissed about a spot
That wasn't on your shirt before
If those are your only concerns
Then count your lucky stars
That you haven't been through what I have
To receive these vicious scars
Have you ever been robbed
Or beaten half to death
Wondering how much longer
Until your final breath
Have you ever been shot
Wishing the bullet hit your head
So instead of feeling pain
You'd instantly be dead
Have you ever had your children
Taken from you
As much as you want them
There's nothing you can do
Have you ever had
A beautiful wife
Stab you in the back
Saying you've ruined her life
Have you ever had
A best friend turn on you
Despite everything
You've helped him through
Have you ever had the law
Treat you like an animal
You're an innocent man
But a judge calls you a criminal
Have you ever had hate
Tear you apart
Or have grief freeze
Your still-beating heart
Have you ever felt dead
Although you're still alive
No self-worth or confidence
No ambition or drive
Before you start complaining
That things aren't going your way
Take a moment to think of others
And what they go through everyday
In my shoes
Unless you have absolutely
Nothing to lose
You think you've seen hell
The suffering and despair
You haven't seen anything
Believe me, I've been there
So don't complain about a dent
In your car's door
Or get pissed about a spot
That wasn't on your shirt before
If those are your only concerns
Then count your lucky stars
That you haven't been through what I have
