Putrid Well
I scratch and claw
My fingers cut and bruised
Bleeding from the rocks and glass
That lines the inner walls
Of my putrid well
Desperately I search
For the jewels
Buried in years of sin and callousness
That slowly festers away in darkness
Wading through the sewage
I pray and promise to my lord
To help me see the light
The shimmering sparks of truth
That I may collect and polish
And wear upon my breast as the badge
Of my undying quest to be worthy
Of his love,
Of his glorious,
Infinite capacity to forgive
Undaunted I sink
To the floor
Where the jewels
May have been buried
Without my knowledge
All those years ago
