A Caged Bird
A bird trapped in an iron cage
Knows only sorrow and rage
Singing of what it will never know
While the free bird sings of the sun's golden glow
A caged bird can only dream of being free
To imagine being able to perch in the grand oak tree
While a bird, unconfined and able to flit through the heavens
Knows such as life, instead of inconceivable legends
A bird free to soar unchecked
Knows nothing of the cage's effect
They know only the freedom of the sky
While the caged bird cannot fathom what it's like to fly
I am much like the caged bird
To me, freedom is an idea I find absurd
For it was the free bird who built this cage
Who led me to be overwhelmed by all this rage
Trapped by the iron bars of insecurity and shame
With only the ones who are free to blame
Taunted by songs of the blue sky
Knowing I will never again spread my wings and fly
