Gargoyles

Gothic grotesque creatures,  peering out from towering stone cornered perches,

Warding off the Devil,  Evil,  protecting Medieval Churches and Cathedrals,

Showering flagrant stares down below,  to the meek,  ignorant,  and unfaithful,

A reminder to non-parishioners to come and join,  or face the perils of evil!

Carved out of stone,  and grossly decorated to look like half man and half animal,

Originally used for shedding water from foundations,  as culverts and gutters,  but are very practical!

It was believed that these creatures would come alive at night,  while everyone's asleep,

Flying wildly,  through their village,  all night long,  returning . . . just before dawn,  never causing a peep!

These Chimeras were extravagantly formed,  and are bizarre,  ludicrous, absurd,  fantastic,  and frightening!

Today,  they are a mere resemblance of themselves,  from the past. . .ornate decorations on Skyscraper Buildings!
