these ancient fires
inspire
keeping love aligned
the spine of time
deigning to expire
subterranean
alchemy
begets the heat
& maintains the flow
so much on the surface
so much more below
as She never sleeps
exploding, churning,
and forever burning
in the chalk of ages
warming, terraforming,
causing islands to
be born in the seas:
getaways for
mortal lovers and
the impermanent love
that they keep
so as long as Her heart beats
on this infinitesimal rock
the fickle force
and crimson glow
this duet of earth
and fire
will never stop
will never fade
and continue to inspire
the mortal masses
these ancient fires
of which we should all aspire
our love to be like
in the span of a century
give or take
a dozen years or three
it is what we make of it
such a shame that it is
snuffed out as often
and as quickly
as it is now
even as our Earth
keeps to it
and has done so
for millions
and millions
and millions of years
accommodating the changes
and nature's bravado
continuing doing so
until either the sun swallows
Her whole
until she freezes over
and subsequently thaws
or until She inevitably
explodes one day
by that one fatal collision
a day unknown to us
and the countless generations
that have yet to follow
fostering our impermanent
Love
