Premonitions
I wasn’t even two blocks away, when the black clouds that had been following me all day suddenly roared. Even though it was only three in the afternoon, the entire sky became as dark as night. When the first shot of lightning came from the clouds, I knew it was time to run.
I began running as fast as my feet would carry me but when the merciless rain began pouring, I knew that it was a lost cause. I was drenched head to toe, not even two minutes after the rain had begun. I cursed my luck. Only this would happen to me on a day when I was already so confused.
I tried running even faster but my house was still a good fifteen minutes away. I was so caught up in running that I didn't see the twig on the floor. I tripped backwards and fell on my butt. Luckily, I hadn’t fallen frontward because then I would’ve injured my brain. As if my brain needs any more pain. I think the visions and the voices are enough.
Pain courses through me but I still manage to stand. After standing there for a good five minutes, I realized that besides being a little sore there weren’t any serious damages.
With that thought, I looked to my surroundings. I made two horrible discoveries at that moment. I was lost. I was in the same deserted neighborhood from the morning. Last but not the least, there was an old lady wearing a witch costume standing three feet behind me.
I was momentarily paralyzed. The lady, or witch, wasn’t pretty at all. She had long dirty white hair and a sinister smile. She was wearing the conventional pointy hat and a long black dress. The only thing she was missing was a broom and a few more moles. I stared at her in shock. Was she following me the entire time? The rain was never ending but she seemed to be almost dry.
It took me a few seconds to notice that she was coming closer to me. Her menacing black eyes screamed run. That’s when I reacted. I let out a high-pitched scream and then turned on my heels, running as fast as I could to save my life.
I don’t know who she was or what was wrong with her, but I didn’t have to be psychic to know that she wanted to hurt me.
I continued running, but my legs started to become weaker, the farther I ran. I wanted to look back to see if she was following me but I knew that was a bad idea. I have watched enough movies to know that looking back when running away from someone was going to end with me hurting myself. It would also give my pursuer an advantage.
The rain eased slightly but not enough to let me out of my misery. When a familiar two story house came in to my view, I was very relieved. I was so relieved that I stepped into dog excrement and fell on to my hands.
All my body weight was thrown on to my tiny wrists but I rolled on to my back just in time before I hurt myself. I was filthy from not only the dirt on the floor but also from the dog excrement. I tried to get up from the sidewalk but extreme pain rocked my body. I brought my hands to my face to see bleeding cuts on them. When the rain hit my fresh wounds, the sting hurt more than anything.
Even though my body refused to cooperate with me, I still pushed my limits until I was able to not only get off the ground, but also make my way to my house.
I don’t know how I was so lucky, but I had managed to keep my bag with me even after falling twice. I quickly took out my key and opened the door. The welcoming warm air from my house made me feel ten times better even with the multiple bruises and cuts on my body. prince charming was going to come bursting through my door to save me. That was only wishful thinking from my part.
