Separate Lives
You burn like a star and light the darkest corners
Of my heart
But only when I know you.
There are times that I don't know you,
Nor do you know me
And we go a lifetime or two without the other.
Every morning I wake up with you on my mind
But somehow the world manages to force you from my thoughts
As I go through the monotony of life.
I love the days when I wake with you and remember
The smell of your hair and the way you feel under my fingers.
I know every night when I go to sleep
That you might not be with me when I wake up.
I can feel the strands of our lives tangle around me,
Around my hands and fingers and back to yours
Because we're attached
Even in the lifetimes when we've never met
Never kissed
Never held each other until the other fell asleep
And never said 'I love you'.
