Perfect Love--A Sestina
Rain is a gift of beauty
The incarnation of serenity
These angry drops cascading down
From straining clouds and wild winds
To rest softly on our fields and streams
A perfect paradox of pain and love
The shining stars are a song of love
A melody and symphony of beauty
This glowing light in gentle streams
A softened river of serenity
Rippling with the nighttime winds
Sparkling teardrops pouring down
Blazing sunbeams glaring down
Are another expression of perfect love
Blending with the Chinook winds
To strip away the blocks to beauty
Bring about the fresh serenity
Of laughing, newly melted streams.
Mud is gathering near the streams
Whispering as the rain pours down
Its glad song of steady serenity
Its unseen sign of perfect love—
This pith of life protects the beauty
Spread about by springtime winds.
The spell of love is cast in winds
Dancing with the mountain streams,
Bearing up their Chinook beauty
Within the feathers of eagle down—
Another sweetened gift of perfect love
And a promise of fresh serenity.
The rustling grasses chime serenity
When their hollow stalks are plucked by winds—
An emerald harp to play on perfect love
Strings stretched by tinkling streams,
Crying their joy when the rain pours down
Another expression of springtime beauty.
And so serenity sings in the streams,
And down the Chinook winds blow
The perfect love of nature’s beauty.
The incarnation of serenity
These angry drops cascading down
From straining clouds and wild winds
To rest softly on our fields and streams
A perfect paradox of pain and love
The shining stars are a song of love
A melody and symphony of beauty
This glowing light in gentle streams
A softened river of serenity
Rippling with the nighttime winds
