The Devil's Playground

I have seen you here before
Looming, and smiling, and playing with the venom
As if it were a harmless toy

Well, I’ve just one thing to say,
If I may, boy..

That snake don’t bite.

Well, not in the light of this day anyhow.
And not in any way you could tell
By the way you’re blindly wandering
Without a care through this illuminated hell.

But, before we get too far ahead of ourselves..,
Let me see if I can’t help you out a bit here,
If I may-

See, I’ve made this wager with the devil,
And he gives me allowances here n’ there..
Well, his door is always open to new company--
What I’m tryin’ to get at here is..
You two will get along just swell.

So when you see him--
there’s no need to be afraid.
You can ask him for forgiveness,
Or pull for a deal to be made.

See, son, barterin’ is the truth ‘round here.
If I could heed ‘ya one iota of advice--
Don’t let him get one up on ya.
The shackles of forgiveness are a crude device.
