Humanity

I want to start over at the beginning of the story,
but then where would that get me?
I long for a world with a rewind button
to erase the mistakes I've made in the past.

There's no future without a past,
just as there's no past without a future.
There's no progress without mistakes,
just as there is no mistakes without progress.

I miss the good old days:
when I could just lay around and not worry.
Now there's drama at every turn, a maze of horror;
with each new lane there's some new monster.

I make life sound like a game, but trust me: it is not.
There's no re-do or rewind button; if you die, you don't come back.
Sounding invincible is how we wish to be; a shield no one can penetrate through.
But there's always something that sends us over the edge.

Perhaps there will come a time where the world is at peace:
When people don't judge others.
When there is no more cruelty.
But then these things make up us...humanity.

It's not all bad though; we're a very caring race.
We love those close to us and treasure those who stay.
While some of us see the glass half empty,
I see it half full and open to opportunity.
Do you?
