i had a dream

i had a dream
    sang it nights
    sang it days
a fantasy
    i slept with
    woke with
    enlightened my day with
        hoped with
      lived with
     lived for
    lived by
a dream of you and me
  no beginning
    no end
      for we were alpha and omega
        in a cyclical paradise
          where the otherwise
        could otherwise
      not even exist

i had a dream
  dreamt it nights
    dreamt it days
      dreamt it asleep
        dreamt it awake
believing in us
 like a rock
  inseparable
   impenetrable
    invulnerable
     like a mountain
      invincible
      convincibly reserved
     for just our souls
    like a treasure
  attainable
retainable

                  i had a dream
                 tomorrow was a promise
               life for the living
              joy for the giving
            rest for the aching
         love for the making
     of sturdy rainbows
 for climbing skies
    just you and me
      together free
         two eagles on the wing
           winding each other’s flight
              beyond the corners of the night

       i had a dream

i had a dream
  but when i awoke
   this morning
     the cold earth
       struck my heartstrings
d-i-s-c-o-r-d-a-n-t-l-y
         and the only thing i lived for
           was gone like vapour
             for you had found
               your new reality
            and i was
         not in it
i dare not dream again
   lest i should stir
   and awaken again
      to find the cold cold earth
      belching in my face
          i dare not even slumber
            because if i should dream again
              i’d rather sleep away
                 than awaken again
                   to this confounded
n-i-g-h-t-m-a-r-e...
